Director of the Mini Theater, Jewish Cultural Center, awarded the Order of Arts and Literature of France
STAMarch 31, 2022 – Robert Waltl, director of the Mini Theater and the Jewish Cultural Center in Ljubljana, received the Order of Arts and Literature of France (Order of Arts and Letters) for “deepening the ties between Slovenia and France and promoting mutual respect and combating all forms of discrimination.”
The French Institute in Slovenia announced that the knight class was handed over to Waltl on Wednesday on behalf of the French Minister of Culture by the French Ambassador Florence Ferrari.
The institute said that Waltl earned the award for his work in art, which deepens ties between Slovenia and France, and for opening the Mini Theater’s repertoire to French productions, including acting and directing in theater.
The director of the Mini Theater also encourages mutual respect and the fight against all forms of discrimination, especially as the initiator of the House of Tolerance festival, they added.
Waltl also invested in the establishment and development of the Jewish Cultural Center, “an extremely important cultural institution in Ljubljana that preserves Jewish cultural life and remembrance of suffering, including the Holocaust, and calls for respect for others and peaceful coexistence. “
Through good relations with many French authors and institutions, he has created a strong network of connections with France in the theater, and has performed in several plays covering production from the Classicist period to the present day.
As a great francophone and francophile, Waltl has been an irreplaceable factor in French-Slovenian relations for many years, the institute adds.
