Small plane crashed near the Säntis – region
NESSLAU – On Wednesday, shortly after 1.35 p.m., the St. Gallen cantonal police received a report that a small aircraft may have been missing in the area of a Säntis. The rescue organizations from Appenzell Ausserrhoden and St. Gallen then initiated a large-scale operation. They would have discovered wreckage in the early evening.
The search for the missing aircraft was very difficult due to the fog in the area around the Säntis. It was only possible to search for the missing plane from the air after 5:30 p.m., writes the cantonal police in their statement. In the meantime, wreckage has been found in very difficult terrain by army and Rega helicopters. The site is located in the Grüehorn area at around 1700 meters above sea level. There is no information yet about the type of machine, the flight route and the police marking machine.
So far, the cantonal police of Appenzell Ausserrhoden communicated the search operation. Due to the location of the crash, which is in the canton of St. Gallen, the cantonal police of St. Gallen are now taking over operations management and communication. More information will follow as soon as reliable information is available, the statement said.
Work on the site was stopped before 8 p.m. due to darkness.
