Public transport – In Salzburg, bus travel is free on Fridays
In the state of Salzburg, all local public transport is now free every Friday. The “Gasoline Free Days” are intended as an immediate measure to provide an offer for those people who already have a good public transport connection and can therefore switch. The campaign is limited to June 24, the state of Salzburg announced in a broadcast on Wednesday.
You can travel for free every Friday from the start of operations to the end of operations on all scheduled buses and trains in the local transport network of the Salzburg transport association. Corridor bus lines 180 and 260 via Bad Reichenhall and bus lines 140 to Mondsee and 150 to Bad Ischl are also included. “The current petrol and diesel prices pose major financial challenges for many commuters. This offer applies above all to those people who have not previously considered public transport for their daily journeys,” emphasized LHStv. Heinrich Schellhorn (Greens, climate) and State Councilor Stefan Schnöll (ÖVP, traffic) in a broadcast. As a spokesman for Schnöll told APA, the campaign cost around 750,000 euros.
The Salzburg KPÖ-Plus councilor Kay-Michael Dankl welcomed the “petrol-free days” in a first statement, but called for long-term measures for the whole week instead of “gimmicky thirteen Fridays”. Dankl has long advocated a reduced monthly social pass for all Salzburg residents below the state poverty line of 1,300 euros net. (pa)
