Multinational Ricoh wants to earn 100 million in Portugal by 2026
“ANDWe set ourselves the goal of doubling turnover in four years, from 50 to 100 million in 2026″, said the executive president (CEO) of Ricoh Portugal, Ramón Martín, speaking to the Lusa agency on the sidelines of a press conference in Porto.
At the Iberian level, Ricoh’s turnover is around 300 million euros, while the multinational’s global turnover exceeds 17,000 million euros.
According to Ramón, for some years now, the growth strategy, since Ricoh’s creation of companies specializing in digital services and solutions, since the new business model focused on expanding its core business of printing services, currently very conditioned by scan.
“We have an enormous capacity to add value to customers in the printing area”, he pointed out.
In this context, in Portugal, Ricoh and acquired, in 2019, the information technology company TotalStor, bought Pamafe from Porto, a digital services company with experience in ‘managed services’, ‘cloud’ solutions and cybersecurity.
“We are buying companies not only in Portugal, but throughout Europe. This year we made purchases in Poland and in other countries. I know that in Latin America we are also buying companies”, stressed Ramón Martin, adding: “What we used to invest in Today, we are investing in creative capacity, through acquisitions, to power digital production at the service level in each of the countries where we operate.
In the CEO’s opinion, “investing in is not easy”, since “the size of the market does not always justify an investment, when compared to other countries, such as France, where the same investment can have much more replication”.
Even so, Ram Martin is convinced of the potential of the Portuguese market, highlighting the “very professionalism and high levels of rigor” it presents and considering that, “in the future, it can be an investment ‘hub’ in Europe for new technologies” .
“I have been directing Portugal for five years and I am sure of the potential that Portugal has, not only in the more traditional sectors where we are, such as printing or videoconferencing, but also in the new digital services”, he said.
With the recent acquisition of Pamafe, Ricoh Portugal launched a new business area — cybersecurity — which, along with the migration to the ‘cloud’ and the hyper-automation of processes, is a third area of business development in which pretend to bet.
“With Pamafe, we have grown to 150 people working in Portugal across the Ricoh group and we will cover business areas that are in much development, such as a ‘cloud’ and cybersecurity, and we will have a business platform for, who knows, others to develop that in Spain we have already launched, such as a hyper-automation or a digital experience”, said Ramón Martin.
In the case of cybersecurity, the CEO highlights the great potential for growth detected, “especially in the public sector”.
“I am not able to estimate the growth that it predicts, in terms of being in the cybersecurity segment, but the protection that will be very great. ‘ransomware’, which forces companies to take immediate measures”, he told Lusa.
Thus, if currently “Pamafe’s recurring business is very much based on the ‘data center’ and ‘cloud’ services that it provides to around 500 customers”, with a cybersecurity component still relatively small”, the plans are to make it “in the medium term, in the next two years”, in which “many companies will have the need to address cybersecurity”.
“We anticipate a great growth in the cybersecurity business”, emphasized Ramón Martín.
With central offices in Tokyo, the Ricoh group operates in 200 countries and regions, having started its activity in Portugal and Spain more than 30 years ago.
