The most important Corona aid for the local hotel and catering industry will expire on Thursday. At the end of March, four support models will no longer be extended. This “off” could have critical consequences, especially for companies in the city of Salzburg.
Failure bonus, loss compensation, hardship fund and fixed cost subsidy: this four Corona aid will not give more to the tourism companies. Short-time work and the assumption of liability for financing will remain in place until the end of June. Most urgently needed, however, would be the cancellation bonus and compensation for losses, says Salzburg tourism spokesman Albert Ebner.
Businesses in the city of Salzburg heavily burdened
Both instruments are essentially compensation for sales slumps due to the Corona measures. Ebner admits that they are not needed everywhere and in every company. But especially in the city of Salzburg, the hotel and catering industry is still under heavy economic pressure.
tourists are absent
Spokesman Ernst Pühringer sees it in a similar way: Locals would storm the bars, but tourists are needed above all for business survival – and they are not coming for the time being. An extension of the aid until the end of June would be vital for many, says Pühringer.
Summer tourism uncertain with Ukraine war
Hotelier Georg Imlauer, on the other hand, is cautiously optimistic: Bookings will increase noticeably at least from Easter, says Imlauer, and international guests are also expected – except from Asia and Eastern Europe. The big unknown for Imlauer is the Ukraine war. This could also have a noticeable effect on domestic summer tourism
