Anselm Kiefer exhibition at the Doge’s Palace in Venice
Contemporary art has entered the Doge’s Palace in Venice with the exhibition “Anselm Kiefer. These writings, when burned, will finally give some light (Andrea Emo)”. From 26 March to 29 October 2022.

Linked to celebrations for the 1600th anniversary of the foundation of Venicethe installation is at the center of the fifth edition of MUVE Contemporarybiennial review of the Venice Civic Museums Foundation which aims to reflect on the relationship of current art with museums. The title refers to the writings of the Venetian philosopher Andrea Emo.
The Civic Museums Foundation had invited Kiefer in 2019 and the choice to host one of his works inside the Doge’s Palace had the aim of measuring the ability of this symbolic place of the Serenissima Republic to still be a center of living and non-living culture. just memory. Anselm Kiefer accomplished this cycle of paintings narrow for Palazzo Ducale during 2020 and 2021: his works are in comparison with the thirty-three monumental canvases of the ceiling and with the heroic value of the entire decorative cycle of the Palazzo, to underline the role of contemporary art in the reflection on universal themes.
These paintings they arise from negationfrom the cancellation of others which they overlap, they are in a certain sense the result of the fire that burned the entire room in 1577. Kiefer ideally confronted himself with the great painters of the past, such as Tintoretto, Palma il Giovane, Andrea Vicentino , appointed by the Senate of the Republic to repaint the glory of Venice on the walls of the Sala dello Scrutinio, after the devastating fire of 1577.
the exhibition is supported by Gagosian, with the collaboration of the Superintendence of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the Municipality of Venice and the Lagoon.
