A track in midfield moves away from Marseille!
Announced as the possible successor to Boubacar Kamara at OM, Jordan Veretout will be a difficult target to recruit. His price remains a major obstacle for his transfer.
OM Mercato: AS Roma uncompromising for Jordan Veretout
Boubacar Kamara will undoubtedly be one of the major players in the next summer transfer window. Under contract until June 2022 with Olympique de Marseille, the young defensive midfielder has so far refused to sign a new lease with the Marseille club. He will therefore be free to sign with any club at the end of the season. In anticipation of his future departure, OM officials then decided to look into his succession. And as often, it is a Serie A player who is targeted by Pablo Longoria to replace him.
The Marseille president was planning to attract Jordan Veretout, who is going through a delicate situation at AS Roma. Relegated to the bench by José Mourinho, the tricolor midfielder does not rule out a return to Ligue 1. The Italian press recently explained that the good relations between the Marseille leaders and their Roman counterparts should undoubtedly easily transfer him to the Olympic Marseille. But in its edition of the day, the newspaper Legos reveals that OM will have to pay much more than expected to convince AS Roma to give up their midfield.
Jordan Veretout, it’s 17 M€ or nothing
While an amount of 15 million euros was announced for the transfer of Jordan Veretout, the Italian newspaper announces that the price is no longer the same. Now it is at least 17 million euros that will have to be put on the table to win the bet. A substantial amount for OM’s finances, which are in the red. Under these conditions, it is very likely that the 28-year-old will move away from Marseille a little more.
The question that then arises is whether this is not a tactic thought up by AS Roma to deter potential courtiers from Jordan Veretout, whose lease expires in June 2024. This is possible, because the Italian club does not intend to part with its midfielder so easily. And that’s not all, since the competition is growing a little more on this issue. In addition to Newcastle, Naples and AC Milan, Inter Milan interfered in the file with the firm desire to win the bet, to the detriment of OM. This tough competition thus risks raising the stakes for the former Nantes player.
