Tinder launches blind date in Norway
Tinder is once again expanding its portfolio of functions, and members now have a new way of creating interpersonal relationships. Tinder breathes life into the classic way of meeting people – blind dating.
Fast Chat: Blind Date is available in Explore, and is a new social experience that matches the members before they get to see each other’s profile – something like conversations, instead of pictures, to the first impression. Blind Date is the latest addition to the popular collection of features in Fast Chat on Tinder – all designed to help members connect faster through fun, innovative questions and games. Members will only be able to see each other’s profiles and photos if they decide to match after the chat.
Inspired by the original way of meeting new people – usually with the help of an eager aunt or well-meaning friend – Blind Date gives today’s daters the opportunity to show off their personality first, and find a match they really enjoy. Gen Z values authentic experiences, and Blind Date reflects the modern dating habits of this target group.
In addition, the blind date touches on the 90s nostalgia, and to a world before smartphones. In early testing, members who used the Blind Date feature received 40% more hits than those who used another Fast Chat feature with visible profiles. This is something that shows a desire among daters to communicate and match with someone who might otherwise have overlooked.
This is how it works. The members will answer a short series of questions, and common features in the answers will determine who they are answered in a chat with. The chat is limited in time – and no pictures, age or other factors are revealed. The only thing members see is the answers to the multiple choice questions such as: “It’s OK to wear a shirt __ times without washing it” and “I have ketchup on __.” When the time is up, they can like each other’s profile and if there is a match get access to the chat partner’s profile. If it is not a match, they can choose to be put together with some other members.
– We have all seen the mixture of excitement and expectation a blind date has aroused in our favorite movie or TV characters, and we wanted to recreate this experience for today’s generation with the Blind Date function, says Kyle Miller, VP of Product Innovation at Tinder.
– There is something very special about letting the conversation be the first impression, without the influence that can come from just looking at pictures. The new Blind Date experience provides a surprisingly fun and witty way to make connections, and which is completely new on Tinder.
Blind Date can be found in Explore, the new interactive room on Tinder. Like the preferences we all have when we meet new people in real life, Explore gives members the opportunity to see profiles arranged by interest. Members can match through various social experiences such as Hot Takes, Vibes, Swipe Night, Music mode and now Blind Date.
Blind Date is available in the US and will be available to Tinder members globally in the coming weeks.
