Team news
Poland
Arkadiusz Milik and Bartosz Salamon are both gone and Mateusz Klich is suspended. Robert Lewandowski and Wojciech Szczesny are both set to return to the starting lineup.
Sweden
Martin Olsson is injured but Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Emil Krafth are available after suspension.
Match preview
Despite the presence of two of the world’s most iconic strikers in Robert Lewandowski and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, goals may be at the top in Tuesday’s World Cup final between Poland and Sweden.
With a place in the Qatar World Cup to fight for, it will certainly be a cool deal between two established football nations, so backing up a 90-minute castle in Chorzow could be the way to go.
Poland said goodbye to the Path B final after Russia’s suspension but warmed up for the qualifier with a draw 1-1 away against Scotland.
And Sweden also enters the match fresh from a stalemate after playing a draw against the Czech Republic in last week’s semi-final before Robin Quaison’s extra time strike decided the matter.
The stakes will only be even higher in Poland on Tuesday night and it is difficult to divide the two sides.
Sweden won 3-2 when these nations met in the group stage at the European Championships 2020 last year, but only thanks to a winner in the 94th minute from Viktor Claesson in a fairly even competition.
All four of Sweden’s European Championship matches were close business, with a total of nine goals – five scored and four conceded.
The Swedes have gained a reputation for being tough to break down under Janne Andersson’s stewardship and they will hardly deviate from that approach in such a decisive match.
With that in mind, extra time may be needed to decide who will book their ticket to Qatar.
Key statistics
Each of Sweden’s last four matches has offered less than 2.5 goals.
