The 66 Verona sections of blood donors Notice they made an appointment yesterday afternoon in Arcole for the provincial assembly, at the Giovanni d’Arcole cultural center, in piazza Europa. He introduced the works there president of Provincial Avis Paola Silvestriwho illustrated the Social report drawn up for the first time by the association. Beside her was there the regional vice president, Giovanni Zamboni, in front of the public made up of the representatives of the municipal Avis and the provincial board. Doctor intervened with them Giorgio Gandini, head of the transfusion service of the Verona hospital.
“2021 was a challenging year, from a human point of view, in the second year of the pandemic, but also bureaucratic, which we hope, has prepared a good springboard for the next three years of the mandate – he began Silvestri -. This is the first time, in fact, that the provincial Avis of Verona engages in the drafting of a social report that aims to measure and communicate the choices, activities, results and commitment in the most complete and comprehensible way possible. of resources. This is so that those who are interested in our association can have a timely and conscious evaluation of how to interpret the social mission. I think this first attempt is important to become ourselves, beyond third persons, aware of the importance that our association has in the social fabric.. We don’t just say it in words but we try to prove it numbers in hand ”.
Currently the Veronese Municipalities are 66 for a total number of 20,952 shareholders: 20,230 donors, 557 former donor collaborators and 165 non-donor volunteers. 28 percent are between 46 and 55 years old. 12 per cent are in the 18-25 age group, 19 per cent between 26 and 35; 21 between 36 and 45 and 20 is over 55 years old. The partners are mostly male. The number of donors fell by 493 units, however this year 36,506 bags of plasma and blood were donated with a +2.41 percent compared to the previous year, the first of the pandemic: 858 more bags. The goal is now to return to pre-covid levels with nearly 37,000 donations a year.
Avis donations represent 57.56 per cent of the Veronese donationsbetween 30,120 of whole blood, 6,018 of plasmapheresis and 368 of other types.
“It stands out that the vast majority of donations are whole blood. It is certainly the most requested, but we must not underestimate it the importance of plasma donation – continues Silvestri -. Plasma is a very precious resource, as well as for transfusion, for the production of life-saving medicines. We must educate donors and health personnel to know and value this form of donation, especially for donors which for the constitution is not sufficient for an optimal weight or level for the donation of whole blood “.
Even 2021, like the previous year, was characterized by the fight against pandemismnevertheless Silvestri underlined the great generosity and sense of responsibility of blood donors. “We all reacted with a great sense of solidarity, donations have undergone an increase compared to 2020 by 858 bags, blood that is used by the sick who await our generous gesture to continue to hope in life. This is what we all agree in affirming that it is the only, true, great purpose of our being Avis ”.
Despite the pandemic, the volunteers did not give up even as regards the activities to promote the gift of blood: “We were unable to attend but Avis’s voice made itself heard in another way. The relationship with the school world has also changed: Avis has learned to make his own interventions in distance learningso as not to lose the opportunity to transmit the culture of donation to the new generations “.
2,640 students were involved in the schools. But Avis has started a consolidated activity in support of Telethon, for which € 21,305 were collected last December, and with other blood donor associations and with Admor.
