In Slovakia, we overcame it with boundless freedom
Shortly after the launch of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the National Security Office proceeded to block several disinformation sites. Is this the right move?
This is a serious and complex issue in which many do not have a clear view. Many of those who have constantly pointed out the relatively devastating influence of the Main Reports on public opinion in Slovakia are embarrassed by this step. This is despite the fact that the disinformation sites were only temporarily stopped until the end of June, after which the measure will be extended or revoked. The NBU is currently offering itself to a long-term censorship position, which may stand out in terms of.
This question is also related to our broader view of what media freedom is and what else is media and what is not. We have no discussion in the European Union and Slovakia at all about how to approach the various alternative media, where there is a border and we can still consider them a medium and where it is already a dangerous propaganda trumpet that wants to expect the country. We cannot define it legislatively, and that is the problem.
