Coppi and Bartali, Sundar-Ineos domain. And the ranking was decided in San Marino
San Marino had to be decisive and indeed it wasbecause the definitive classification of the Coppi and Bartali was outlined with two stages in advance already on the Stradone. Where the first 4 of the fraction also became the first 4 of the general, with gaps remained unchanged until the end. To the delight of Eddie Dunbar, became the first Irishman to enter the roll of honor after dominating the edition: 4 out of 5 stages in white jersey, snatched from Schmid at the finish in Longiano and never lost again. Mainly thanks to his holding in the San Marino-San Marino: when team-mate Tulett snatched he remained within range, defending the position over Hirschi and Carr, without contending for the victory and at the same time ensuring the safety margin so as not to lose the primacy. And there, as mentioned, everything crystallized: at the finish line of the Titan Dunbar has 9 “on Tulett, 24” on Hirschi and 30 “on Carr and the same is, at the end of the race, in Cantagrillo.
Dunbar’s test of strength is not, however, separable from that of one Ineos Grenadiers catches all or almost, who made the big voice in every degree and monopolized the management of the group in every salient phase of the race. Team classification, first two places in the general, orange jersey for best youngster with Tulett and red points jersey with Hayter, who also won the second stage: this is the final booty of the Ineos. The green jersey of Andrea Garosio’s climbers remains out, which has earned it, coincidentally, in San Marino. The rest, except for the ring of van der Poel from Montecatini, is the stuff of fast pace, on parade on the last finish line with Cerny, stage winner, and Cavagna. The two fled at -35 km together with the other member of the podium, Goldstein. Then Cerny went solo and, once Cavagna also took the edge on the third wheel, he slowed down and waited for it, for a scenic arrival hand in hand that served as a falling curtain.
