City of Salzburg: CoV hardship fund is to be expanded

The Green Citizens’ List is calling for the CoV hardship fund in the city of Salzburg to be extended to people who are struggling with the current devil’s wave. In addition, the budget should be increased. The responsible SPÖ social councilor Anja Hagenauer is open to it.
The city’s CoV hardship fund was originally created to help alleviate financial emergencies triggered by the pandemic. The fund is endowed with 200,000 euros. In concrete terms, he pays up to 200 euros per household in electricity costs. This grant does not have to be repaid. However, the prerequisite is that the emergency situation arose as a result of the pandemic.
Haller names Graz as a role model
But that’s exactly what should be changed now, demands Ingeborg Haller, chairwoman of the Green Citizens’ List. “We have established a Corona hardship fund and already have experience of how we can help people quickly and unbureaucratically who are affected by evictions or who can no longer pay energy costs. We should expand this fund and perhaps also rename it – following the example of the city of Graz – to the ‘Salzburg helps’ fund so that we can continue to provide help quickly,” argues Haller.
The responsible social councilor Anja Hagenauer (SPÖ) will take up this proposal. However, according to Hagenauer, a whole package of measures is needed to counteract the devil’s wave. This is to be worked out at a round table in early April.
