The Renata Tebaldi International Singing Competition is back
The announcement of the Renata Tebaldi International Singing Competition, organized by the Renata Tebaldi Foundation and dedicated to young candidates from all over the world, has been issued. An important event for bel canto and musical culture this year increases its value as the edition of the centenary of the birth of the “Voice of the Angel”. The unforgettable soprano was born a century ago and the world celebrates the anniversary.
The online publication of the call for the eighth edition of the Renata Tebaldi International Singing Competition scheduled from 13 to 17 September in the Republic of San Marino has been announced.
The competition stems from the desire to concretely support young singers which is the mission of the Renata Tebaldi Foundation, the only reality to have received from the same artist in life the authorization to work to “remember her as a woman and as an artist”, as she said at the act. of the constitution the same Tebaldi.
The soprano is spent in San Marino in December 2004 and did not see the first edition of its International voice competition, the event that since 2005 has been the most important on the Foundation’s calendar, an appointment that has received international acclaim in previous editions involving the major cultural institutions in the sector, boasting the participation of important names from the world of opera, criticism, theaters, the accreditation of the most important sector press and, a very important aspect that determines the quality and life of the competition, the participation of young people talented singers from all over the world, in addition to the composition of an international jury of absolute prestige.
The competition formula foresees, also for the 2022 edition, two sections: the first will be dedicated to the Ancient and Baroque repertoire; the second will focus on the Opera repertoire from Mozart to the whole of the twentieth century.
An absolute novelty, introduced for the first time in this eighth edition, the live pre-selections: two days of live auditions that will allow young candidates to earn their place in the semifinals. For the section dedicated to early music the date is May 7 at the Château de Versailles while for the opera section the appointment is in Milan at the Teatro alla Scala on May 5.
Candidates will be able to choose between the live performance and which relies only on video recordings by viewing the announcement published online on the Renata Tebaldi Foundation website (www.fondazionerenatatebaldi.org) and register by 30.
Applications for participation, accompanied by the sending of the CV and two audio-video recordings, will be selected by a commission chaired by the artistic director of the competition Angelo Nicastro.
The two venues for the live preselections also anticipate the two designated Presidents of the two international Juries, one for each musical area of reference. President of the Ancient and Baroque section Jury will be Laurent Brunner Director of the “Château de Versailles Spectacles. The President of the Opera Section Jury will be Dominique Meyer, superintendent of the Teatro alla Scala. Both the Presidents of the Jury, representatives of the leading institutions of two illustrious European music capitals, will offer a writing to the First Prize Winner of the section they preside over, relaunching the role that the San Marino Competition increasingly intends to play as a discoverer of young talents and promoter of their careers, even more so after years of forced absence from theaters and live shows.
Therefore, the Tebaldi Competition is reconfirmed, a hotbed of talents who, as the President of the Renata Tebaldi Foundation, Dr. Niksa Simetovic, likes to repeat, also become spokesmen for the Republic of San Marino in the world.
In this 2022 the Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition then takes on a particular connotation, being the year in which the centenary of the artist’s birth occurs.
Many authoritative sponsors for the initiative, many in fact the realities who wanted to celebrate this anniversary with Tebaldi and which will be revealed on international holidays thanks to the incessant work of the organizational team coordinated by Barbara Andreini, artistic manager, among other things, of coordination.
An international event that after the stop imposed by the pandemic brings attention back to theater and cultural events, to Belcanto and to young singers: under 32 as the regulation requires, of all nationalities and backgrounds, eager to reach the Republic of San Marino for the final stages and excited by the new opportunities offered by the live preselections.
