In the first part of the game it goes back and forth. The guests got off to a better start, but Munich goalkeeper Danny aus den Birken, who returned to the squad after recovering from injury, thwarted several chances – including a solo effort by Chris Bourque (11′). In return, Konrad Abeltshauser was free to finish, but Kevin Reich prevented Munich from taking the lead (12′). Seconds later, the ERC goalkeeper was beaten when Parkes converted the disc after preparatory work by Frederik Tiffels (13th). After the 1-0, Don Jackson’s team controlled the duel and settled into the opposing third, another goal was scored before the first break, but not.
The Red Bulls had an outstanding middle third – even though Ingolstadt’s Leon Hüttl (22′) equalized first. From then on only Munich played. The Red Bulls put the Panthers under constant pressure and scored a total of six goals before the second break. Ortega put the hosts ahead again in the 26th minute before Hager (32nd) added the 3:1. After Parkes on the power play (35′) and Smith with a deflected shot (36′) went up to 5:1, ERC coach Doug Shedden changed the goalkeeper: Danny Taylore Reich, but the new man in the Ingolstadt goal also had to go after a short time time take time behind you. Lutz made it 6:1 (39th). Eight seconds later, Smith scored to make it 7-1 after strong preparatory work by Yasin Ehliz.
Despite the high lead, the Red Bulls were highly concentrated in the final third. With a lot of wit, the three-time German champion combines to further top chances. Gogulla used one of them after a one-two with Maximilian Kastner (46th), ERC goalie Taylor had no chance. Just like the last goal of the evening through the street, which marked the final score of 9:1 in the 52nd minute.
Julian Lutz:
“Did the little things right and then led to big things: fools.”
