€166,000 paid out to students by ÖH Innsbruck
The Austrian Students’ Union (ÖH) of the University of Innsbruck is paying out €166,000 to students who have gotten into financial difficulties due to the fourth lockdown.
Innsbruck (OTS) – As a representative of Innsbruck’s students, the ÖH Innsbruck set up a lockdown support fund at the end of 2021 to support financial students who were affected by short-time work or who lost their job due to the lockdown. “Lockdowns must not threaten the existence of student cases. Especially not because students are mentally weaker than the rest of society anyway.”
, said ÖH chairman Daniel V. Müller. The fund gave students the opportunity to apply for a payment of €400. Over 400 students have received grants.
unemployment among students
Students were particularly affected by the corona-related lockdowns. For some, lockdowns mean not only online lectures and closed libraries, but also job losses and unemployment. In Innsbruck, jobs in the areas of gastronomy and trade are mainly occupied by students, who suffered severely from the effects of the pandemic when they were closed. Regular lockdowns made it more difficult to do student part-time jobs, which often led to bottlenecks.
Lukas Schobesberger, first deputy chairman, criticizes the policy, which has hardly considered support services for marginal employees. “We at ÖH Innsbruck do not leave students alone with their problems!”
he stated in a press conference.
