Sweden enters a clear second place before the last World Women’s round-robin session
Sweden beat Norway 6-3 in Friday afternoon’s 19th round-robin-pass in the BKT Tires & OK Tire World Women’s Curling Championship, a result that places them in a clear second place in the ranking before the last round-robin-pass.
Japan and Scotland were both scheduled to play in this session – against Korea and Turkey – but both have withdrawn due to covid-19 difficulties, with Korea and Turkey both being awarded automatic prizes. In the only other match that took place, Italy beat the Czech Republic 7-3.
Sweden against Norway
In the match between Sweden and Norway, the Swedes had built up a 3-0 lead after four finishes.
Then in the fifth end, Norway put their first point on the scoreboard when their fourth player Kristin Skaslien knocked out a Swedish stone to make one. The Norwegians were looking to score two goals, but Skaslien could not keep their goal scorer in play to count.
In the seventh end, the Swedes led 3-2 when their ship Anna Hasselborg scored two points with a full hit. Another steal in the eighth end completed Sweden’s win 6-3.
After the match, Hasselborg said, “It was a really good win, we might have felt a little tired when we lost last night, so to go out and play a great match after a long 10-hour sleep, it was such a good win, and we take many good things from it. “
Italy v Czech Republic
Italy made the first three finishes of their match against the Czech Republic.
They scored one point in the fourth end and then had a single point theft in the fifth end to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
After another shiny finish in the sixth, Alzbeta Baudysova from the Czech Republic pulled her last stone in the seventh end in place to score two goals and level the match to 2-2.
In the eighth end, Italy’s jumper Stefania Constantini played a close encounter on a Czech rock to score five points and take a 7-3 lead. This changed the match, and after scoring in the eighth, the Czech team conceded the match, with the final score 7-3 to Italy.
This completed Italy’s game program at this championship and afterwards Italy’s Constantini said: “It’s always good to finish with a win. We played a good match to finish this championship. We did not progress as we wanted, we just focused on it. the last match. ”
She added, “Our weight control is probably better now than when we came here. All the teams in the world are strong, so we’ve had to play quality matches.”
