Kyle Walker-Peters is reportedly set to represent England against Switzerland
SAINTS defender Kyle Walker-Peters will make his first-ever appearance for England in tonight’s friendly against Switzerland, according to reports.
The 24-year-old was called up to the Three Lions squad for the first time by manager Gareth Southgate after full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James were eliminated through injury.
Walker-Peters, who has represented England throughout their youth, has never bowed on the international stage.
However, Sky Sports report that Southgate wasted no time with his introduction and that Walker-Peters will be named in the starting line-up for tonight’s 17:30 clash.
They add that Walker-Peters will exit alongside his debutant and former England Under-21 captain Marc Guehi, who starred for Crystal Palace this season.
Earlier this month, Walker-Peters discussed the possibility of an England call-up with the Daily Echo ahead of the first squad announcement.
He told us: “I’m really happy with my performances this season and it recognizes what’s beautiful.
“Of course I would like to represent England. But that’s up to the coach.
“My main focus is to perform as well as I can for Southampton and hopefully that gives me an opportunity to go with England.”
Walker-Peters is the only recognized right-back in the squad and could be a full-fledged England international by the end of today’s game.
James Ward-Prowse and Fraser Forster were also brought into Southgate’s group.
