The happiest country in the world is Finland. Slovakia lags far behind
Finland has become the happiest country in the world for the fifth time in a row. This follows from this year’s World Report on Happiness, which was published by UN experts on Friday. It shall inform TASR on the basis of an AFP report.
The report assesses the happiness of individual citizens on the basis of how they themselves perceive factors such as gross domestic product per capita, longevity and also the level of corruption in government and business. It also pays attention to social security or the degree of freedom, citizens feel in their life decisions.
The top rungs of the current “ranking of happiness” are dominated by northern European countries – za Finland Denmark and Iceland in third place. The top ten is complemented by Switzerland, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden, Norway, Israel and New Zealand. Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania have seen the biggest shift towards a better perception of well-being.
The United States finished in 16th place, Britain in 15th place, France in 20th place. Slovakia ranks 35th in the ranking.
On the other hand, Afghanistan was the least lucky at the bottom of the rankings, ahead of Lebanon, Zimbabwe and Rwanda. At the same time, Afghanistan and Lebanon, together with Venezuela, are among the countries that have failed the most in their own perception of happiness.
“This ranking is a relentless reminder of the material and intangible damage that people are causing to the war,” Jan-Emmanuel De Neve, co-author of the report, pointed out.
In compiling this year’s report, the authors also took into account data from social networks in order to compare the emotions of people from before and after the coronavirus pandemic. They found that feelings of anxiety and sadness had risen sharply in 18 countries, and conversely, people did not feel as angry as before.

Finland however, it is also known for its vast forests and many lakes, ubiquitous saunas, functioning public services, trust in its representatives and low crime rates.

The IIHF has also changed the composition of the individual tournaments so that the elite categories have an even number of participants after the elimination of the Russia or Belarus selections. Slovakia only applies to hockey players under the age of 18, who were originally supposed to play in the A-Group of the 1st Division of the World Championships of this age category in Győr, Hungary, but will play among the US elite in June 2022 and their A-Group rivals. . will be domestic peers as well as selections of Canada and Finland.
