Sweden removes the covid entry ban for travelers from all third countries on 1 April
After more than two years, Sweden has finally announced that it will remove the entry ban for unnecessary travel from third countries from 1 April.
The decision to stop extending the entry ban for travelers outside the EU / EEA has been announced by the Swedish Ministry of Justice in a press release issued today, March 25, reports SchengenVisaInfo.com.
“This also means that the requirement to present a vaccination and test certificate upon entry into Sweden is removed“, writes the press release.
It also emphasizes that although the pandemic is not over, it has entered a new phase due to the high number of people vaccinated against the Corona virus and the milder virus variants that prevail.
“We have already lifted the entry ban within the EU. Now the government has decided not to extend the entry ban from third countries. It will make it much easier for anyone who has been prevented from coming to Sweden in recent years due to the pandemicsays Minister of Justice and Home Affairs Morgan Johansson regarding the move.
Earlier on 9 February, Sweden lifted all entry restrictions for travelers from other European Union and European Economic Area, regardless of their covid-19 vaccination status, following an evaluation by the Public Health Agency that entry restrictions are no longer a proportionate infection control measure.
“As part of the continued work to phase out the infection control measures against covid-19, the government today decided to lift all restrictions on entry into Sweden from the Nordic countries and other EU and EEA countries.said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice in a joint press release issued at the time.
Later, on March 8, SchengenVisaInfo.com reported that the Swedish government had decided to no longer classify the Corona virus as a “generally and socially dangerousVirus despite the high number of cases detected daily throughout its territory.
According to data collected by the World Health Organization (WHO), Sweden has registered over 2,481,736 cases of covid-19 since the pandemic began, while 18,189 people have died during the same period.
Sweden is not the first EU country to abolish all its entry restrictions for travelers worldwide, regardless of their vaccination status. Since the end of January this year, more and more countries have agreed that travel restrictions no longer play a role in preventing the spread of covid-19.
