Police discover illegal excavations on the Lutzengüetli – Liechtenstein
GAMPRIN – The state police have identified two suspicious excavations in the historic Lutzengüetli area on the Eschnerberg. She recalls that searching for sealed finds is illegal in Liechtenstein.
Time and again, people in certain areas of the country are illegally searching for objects with search devices such as metal detectors. Such excavations occur mainly on prominent hilltops, at the edges of forests and in forest areas.
According to the law on the protection, preservation and care of cultural assets (KGG), excavations for closed objects without official permission and with technical aids of any kind are prohibited. “Bug diggers” would not only steal objects from the crime scene, but also destroy traces and find contexts that are necessary for research. According to the state police, the finder is not allowed to keep the subordinate objects, but must report them to the Office for Culture. Such finds are the property of the country.
The state police regularly check particularly endangered sites. They accept information that suggests illegal excavation activity on +423 236 71 11 or [email protected].
