Covid-19 in Portugal: fewer cases and fewer hospitalized, but more deaths | Pandemic
Portugal recorded, between 15 and 21 March, 75,276 cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, 137 deaths associated with covid-19, more hospitalizations but fewer cases in intensive care units, indicated this Friday the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
According to the weekly epidemiological bulletin, the number of cases of infection dropped by 3189 in relation to the previous week, registering, however, an increase of 13 deaths in the comparison between the two periods.
As for the hospital occupation in mainland Portugal by covid-19, the DGS released on Fridays the data on hospitalizations referring to the Monday before the publication of the report and based on that article Monday indicates that, last Monday, 1164 were hospitalized. people, 24 more than on the same day of the previous week, and 64 patients were in intensive care units, minus two.

In Alentejo, 5,238 positive cases were recorded (190 less) and 11 deaths (same as last week); in the Algarve there were 4,816 infections by SARS-CoV-2 (minus 555) and six deaths (minus two).
As for the autonomous regions: the Azores had 2,216 new infections between 15 and 21 March (133 less) and three deaths (one more), while Madeira recorded 4,955 cases in those seven days (560 more) and seven deaths (more).
More cases between 40 and 49 years old
The age group between 40 and 49 years old was the one with the highest number of cases within seven days (12,752), followed by people between 30 and 39 years old (10,411), while people over 80 were the group with fewer mosquitoes (4,410)
Of the total admissions, 547 were elderly people over 80 years old, followed by the age group from 70 to 79 years old (225) and from 60 to 69 years old (141). The DGS also notes that it accounted for 14 admissions in the age group of children up to nine years old.
The bulletin mentions that, in the third week of March, 105 elderly people over 80 years old, 22 people between 70 and 79 years old, six between 60 and 69 years old, three between 50 and 59 years old and one between 40 and 49 years.

As for the dose of SARS-CoV-2 immunization in the elderly, 95% of those over 80 years old have already received it, as well as 96% of people between 65 and 79 years old, 82% between 50 and 64 years old, 57% between 25 and 49 years old and 41% between 18 and 24 years old.
