Sweden’s residents must vote on the fire brigade ordinance
SWEDEN – Residents of this town in Oxford County will vote on whether to establish a municipal fire brigade at Saturday’s annual meeting,
It will begin at 9 a.m. at Town Meeting House on 147 Bridgton Road.
Voters will decide on 51 items, including a budget of $ 870,000 and a new fire department ordinance.
The proposed ordinance will establish a municipal fire brigade and define the tasks of the manager and other members.
The place is served by the Swedish Voluntary Fire Association.
Proposed items related to the fire brigade’s budget would increase by $ 16,455 and the fire chief’s remuneration by $ 1,010. This is a small part of an almost 20% proposed increase in the municipal budget.
While road and curb maintenance was reduced from $ 51,000 to $ 50,000; City officials recommend an $ 118,000 increase in the capital improvement reserve account for roads. Snow removal and sanding increases by $ 19,000.
New items include $ 17,000 to set up a capital improvement reserve account for land maintenance, upkeep and repairs to city buildings, and $ 8,000 for a Town Meeting House generator.
Voters will also elect a select, assessor and supervisor of the poor for a three-year term. They will also elect three members of the Planning Board, two members of the Board of Appeal and one member of the School Administration District 72 and one alternate.
