The third stage of the Coppi & Bartali Week 2022which will lead the corridors to the Republic of San Marino, also passing through the province of Pesaro and Urbino. It starts with Edward Dunbar in the leader’s jersey, taken in the second stage won by team mate Ethan Hayter. Let’s see, below, all the details of today’s stage.
PATH
Short but very hard stage. 147.1 km with start and finish in the Republic of San Marino, with 3 GPMs scattered along the route as well as three other challenging climbs that are not classified as GPMs. After a short descent in the first few kilometers, the runners find themselves immediately on the ascent towards Serra San Marco which, with its 1006 m of altitude, will be the highest point of the week. Long but not particularly demanding climb (12 km at 4.3%) which will serve as an appetizer to the hard 18.2 km circuit that will be covered four times. There are two climbs in the circuit, the short stretch towards Chiesanuova and above all the ascent to San Marino which the first time will be 10 km long, while the other four times will measure 5.7 km with an average gradient of 7.5%. The last of these ascents will lead to the finish line of what we can define as the “queen stage” of the race.
ALTITUDE
FAVORITES
Today’s will be the only real uphill arrival of the Italian five days, therefore an unrepeatable opportunity for climbers who want to leave an important mark on the general classification. Among the most anticipated men at the finish line in San Marino, after 5.7 km km at 7.5% average gradient, there will certainly be Geraint Thomasas well as the blues Mattia Cattaneo and Vincenzo Nibali. To keep an eye on too Diego Ulissi, always very suitable for the tears in the final, and the pair of Israel-Premier Tech Ben Hermas-Chris Froome.
