Paris without complex – JHM
For its start of competition in the Coupe de France, the Chaumont VB 52 Haute-Marne will have to be wary of Paris volleyball, which it will have to face in its Pierre-Charpy room. The Cévébistes may even have won the most difficult opposition to apprehend for this round of 16. While a match against one of its direct rivals in the championship (Tours, Montpellier, Sète or Narbonne) could certainly have seemed more complicated, the confrontation in the capital promises to be tricky.
After a particularly neat end to the regular season, with three victories in the last days (against Toulouse, Nice and ahead of Montpellier), Dorian Rougeyron’s men approach this second part of the season in the shoes of the perfect “outsider”. Of course, like all the teams in the running, the Parisians dream of prolonging the adventure as long as possible, but a defeat against CVB 52 would certainly not be perceived as a poor performance.
The team from the capital has absolutely everything to gain in this duel, which is not the case for the Chaumontais. And with individuals as experienced as the Spanish passer Hernan (40 years old), the Argentinian receiver/attacker Nicolas Mendez (30 years old) or the Brazilian Brazilians Renan Michelluci (28 years old) and Cuban Favid Diel (29 years old), allied to the passion young French internationals Ibrahim Lawani (21), Benjamin Diez (24) and Serbian Milan Kujundzic (25), Paris Volleyball has enough assets to make the strongest tremble.
A tough opponent
Against Paris, Chaumont VB 52 Haute-Marne never had it easy during the 23 clashes between the two teams. On the scoreboard, the Parisian club even currently has twelve wins to eleven over its Haut-Marne counterpart. Duels which, on ten occasions, led the two teams to the “tie-break”.
During the matches played at the Pierre-Charpy room, where Silvano Prandi’s men will go this Friday, March 25, the gap increases a little more in favor of the residents of the place, since the players of the Capital have won seven of the twelve matches that opposed the CVB 52.
In the Coupe de France, Parisians and Chaumontais only faced each other once, during the 2013/2014 season for a victory (3-2) for Paris volley in the semi-finals.
Finally, in high-stakes matches, the two teams met twice in the “play-off” for an elimination from Haute-Marne in the quarter-finals in 2015/2016, but a qualification by cevebist more recently in the semi-finals in 2017/ 2018.
