From Switzerland: view of Manchester United claims, rapprochement and transfer in the summer
In recent weeks, Manchester United have been named as potential candidates for Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji in various reports from Germany.
It was also explained that the Switzerland international, whose contract expires in 2023, has turned down a €8m-a-year proposal as he wants a deal that includes an annual salary of €10m.
Bild had said on Thursday that BVB had made the 26-year-old an improved offer, which he had rejected. Therefore, his “farewell” is approaching in the next summer window.
The same report also says the Red Devils have “showed interest” in signing him and are trying to lure him with a “gigantic salary” of €15m a year.
view in Switzerland have rejected the Bild report because the 26-year-old “has not made a decision” and the talks between him and the Bundesliga club are “still ongoing”.
“Right now he just wants to focus on the last important games of the season. If there is anything official to report, the club will follow suit. We are in talks with BVB.” The agency that looks after him said this to Blick.
The player’s advisory team further stated that Akanji “has not yet made a decision on whether to extend or leave Dortmund”.
It’s clear the player has to make a “fundamental decision” about his future and as it stands, the report adds that it’s “doubtful” he will sign a new contract with the German club.
Should Akanji decide against a renewal, they will ‘sell’ him in the summer as they cannot risk losing him for free in 2023.
Blick mentions reports linking him with Manchester United but casts doubt on the Swiss defender’s move to Old Trafford given the Red Devils are yet to appoint a permanent manager and have the likes of Harry Maguire and Raphaël Varane in their squad.
