European map shows northern Portugal painted in orange with COVID-19 infections. Rest of the country in red
In recent weeks Europe has been closer to the state of being painted red on ECDC maps, a color code that represents the existence of more than 500 positive COVID-19 cases per 100 million inhabitants. Data from the European Disease Center (ECDC) were updated this Thursday in Europe Control of dark days that in the last 14 continue in Portugal by the majority of western painted by the progression of western infections19 despite the reduction of containment measures that is underway all over the European Union.
Eastern Europe has countries with the orange level, a situation that is getting better and better in Spain. Last week, the ECDC had noted a trend towards a sustained decline in the number of cases seen in previous weeks. But in the last 14 days there was an increase of 4.5% and a proportion of more than 9.1% in the population over 65 years old. Despite a reduction in testing in some countries, there was an overall increase in cases in 14 countries, 13 of which were an increase in the population over 65, with a record for this age group in six countries.

In the latest epidemiological bulletin, which was shared on March 18, the number of cases dropped by 811 compared to the previous week. In total, 78,464 cases of infection were recorded during the period, 123 deaths (39 less than the previous week), as well as 1,140 hospitalizations, a reduction of 85 compared to the previous period. In intensive care there were 66 patients, 12 fewer than before. The incidence at seven days was 762 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, a reduction of 1% compared to the previous week.
Lisbon and the Jordan Valley continues to be the longest-lasting period, recording an increase of 1,228 cases, out of a total of 1,228 cases out of 31,950, as well as 36 previous deaths. The North follows with a total of 13,103 cases of infection, plus 194 cases, but it also recorded 13 fewer deaths, out of a total of 25 deaths. At the Center, 15,894 infections were registered, a reduction of 902 cases and 38 deaths, seven less than in the previous period.
