118 turns 30 and the monuments of the municipalities of the province of Rimini are dressed in blue
On May 27th we celebrate the 30th anniversary of 118 and SIIET (Italian Society of Nurses Emergency Territorial), SIEMS (Italian Society of Health Emergency) together with all the Italian volunteers, involved the Italian municipalities, thanks to the collaboration with ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities ) to illuminate the main monuments of the cities in blue (color representative of the flashing lights of the ambulances).
The regional representative of SIIET Rocco Mergola thanks the municipalities of Rimini, Riccione, Cattolica, Coriano, Santarcangelo di Romagna, Verucchio, Misano Adriatico, Talamello, Novafeltria, Mondaino, San Giovanni in Marignano, Saludecio, San Leo and Bellaria-Igea Marina for having joined the initiative for the illumination of municipal monuments. A sign of great respect and recognition of the precious work of the 118 operators who in thirty years have carried out for citizens with dedication, professionalism and a spirit of sacrifice without ever holding back, even at the risk of their lives, especially in the last years of the pandemic .
The opening of the celebrations started on March 20, 2022; more than 2000 operators of the Territorial Emergency service met in Rome and paraded in via della Conciliazione until they reached St. Peter’s to attend the Angelus of Pope Francis.
The celebrations will continue throughout the week in various Italian cities with a calendar full of initiatives (www.trentennale118.it).
In addition to being the home of engines and hospitality, Emilia-Romagna is also the mother of organized first aid in Italy.
At 10.25 am on August 2, 1980, at the Bologna station, a mad terrorist gesture causes 85 deaths and 291 injuries and ensures that all the city ambulances, hospitals and rescue organizations relate to a single rescue center and that the activities related to that dramatic event has a unique coordination.
These were hectic years, years of pushing for experimentation and innovation, which led up to June 1, 1990, on the occasion of the soccer world championships, where 118 was activated in Bologna, the first health city in Italy, as a single emergency telephone number. .
Two years later, on March 27, 1992, the then President of the Republic Francesco Cossiga signed the Decree for the establishment of the 118 health alarm operating centers, fully proposing the organizational model tested in Emilia Romagna.
Thirty years have passed since 1992 where the Emiliano Romagnolo Rescue has evolved, remaining a national example, to embrace all types of rescue: land, sea, mountain and sky thanks to the technological implementation of resources. human resources and means always at the service of the citizen.
