Voting for a better Malta – Joe Giglio
This week marks the end of my first election campaign. I look back on four intense weeks during which my colleagues and I, around the Nationalist Party, presented an electoral program that is broad in scope and vision, taking into account every aspect of our society, our economy. , our environment and institutions.
This is a program that I am honored to have contributed to over the past year. Malta presents an alternative to what we have now; A more resilient and united Malta that looks to the future with pride and confidence.
Just a few days after this campaign, war broke out in Europe and daily news of aggression and violence entered our homes, reminding us that the world remains such an unstable place.
As if we needed some remembrance after two years of dealing with a global pandemic, the escalating war in Ukraine has highlighted how prone we are to external disruption and how important it is to have a reliable and responsible leadership that can be trusted to make our best decisions. interest.
Because that is its crux. Our government is supposed to reflect our interests and not those of a select few. Our government must be focused on creating the right policy, infrastructure and environment in which our society and our economy can thrive and reach its full potential in a fair and equitable manner. inclusive.
Our government must be working to safeguard our resilience so that we can withstand external shocks without compromising our stability and growth. Our government must be preparing for the future, equipping Malta with the agility, skills and infrastructure to courageously negotiate the impending green and digital transformations, and translate these challenges into quality of life. better for every citizen.
The Labor government continues to fall dangerously in all these points. Instead of looking to the future, it has been constantly fighting scandal after scandal as it has failed to address the rampant political corruption that has put Malta on the FATF gray list and tarnishes our reputation around the world. It has been plunged into incompetence as institutions have been weakened and public service hijacked by political interests, with key appointments given based on loyalty and not skill.
This Saturday we can reset our future– Joe Giglio
Our economic policy is consistently superficial and reactive, rather than strategic and robust. No solid new economic sectors have been created as, instead, two successive Labor governments have been more interested in flirting with unreliable new niches, rather than working with our business organizations and the private sector to consolidate strengths. and exploit new opportunities.
Meanwhile, our environment has been ruined, both our natural and our built heritage, which belongs to each and every one of us. We have reached a point where we can barely recognize our own country. This is not the government that Malta deserves and not the quality of leadership we need in today’s challenging climate.
This election, therefore, puts Malta at a critical crossroads. A vote for the Nationalist Party means a vote for a new style of leadership, one that is built on trust, good governance and transparency and that can provide the much needed stability and resilience after years of scandal and incompetence.
A vote for the Nationalist Party may also be an informed one. During this election campaign, we did not resort to gimmicks or blank sound bites, nor did we seek to blind voters with promises of one-off payments even as the cost of living is rising. On the contrary, we launched our election program just a few days into the campaign to make our message clear and clear. This program is broad and ambitious but is rooted in an integrated and holistic vision that drives all sectors and all sections of society. Together.
Imagine what we can achieve if we can finally remove the corruption and incompetence that have defined the current government and restore our trust and reputation. This allows for a renewed focus on government rather than firefighting. It would be reassuring for everyone, including the business sector to be able to operate in a clear and consistent framework.
It also supports sound, equitable and sustainable economic planning that promotes a healthier environment and quality of life. Other essential pillars, such as health, education and social policy, are given the comprehensive attention they deserve, with targeted investment where it is really needed.
This Saturday presents a definite moment for our country in which we can reset our future. I would therefore like to ask you to take a moment and consider the best option for Malta before you cast your vote.
