The epidemiological situation in Slovakia is currently stable
There are approximately 2,400 patients in hospitals, with a daily intake of about 240 cases. “Compared to previous waves, when some of them were hospitalized with another primary diagnosis, today there are up to a third of them. and at the same time I was diagnosed with COVID-19, “ explained Mišík.
According to him, the most significant incidence is especially in the west of Slovakia, specifically in Bratislava, Senec and Nitra. “It’s declining or significantly lower in the east than in the west,” he added.
According to him, it is currently caused by the release of the situation and the gradual establishment of the omicron subvariant BA.2. Recent sequencing data showed its presence in approximately 60 percent of the samples. “These days, we assume that most of the new cases are of the new BA.2 subvariant,” clarified. He added that it does not differ fundamentally from the previous subvariant in its course. According to him, those who have overcome the omicron variant of BA.1 can become infected with it a little easier.
In the near future, experts expect a balanced situation, in some areas they expect an increase, in others declines. “Even from what we see in the surrounding countries, such as Austria, which are record cases, their incidence has been declining in recent days. So we expect a similar course in Slovakia.” he explained.
He does not feel that the interim measures would be relaxed. He noted that when making decisions, experts look mainly at the situation with hospitalized patients, which, according to him, the current situation allows. At the same time, he reminded that the omicron variant can also cause a serious course and that the number of hospitalized persons still consists of unvaccinated persons.
