A busy year for Stein Egerta – Liechtenstein
SCHAAN – In 2021 adult education in Stein Egerta was able to hold a total of 572 events. However, because of the corona pandemic, many encounters only took place in video conferences, numerous events were postponed or held under 3G and 2G conditions. However, the Stein Egerta adult education program has tried to offer people in the region a positive perspective under these difficult conditions.
With a planned offer of 1004 courses, the implementation rate is 57 percent. This was announced by adult education Stein Egerta (EBA) on Wednesday as part of the publication of its 2021 annual report. The focus is on sport/exercise and health/bodywork. Throughout the year, the seminar center recorded 4840 participants in the courses and 1400 people were welcomed as guests. In addition to the general course program, the EBA also offered further training to interested partners.
The packages within the framework of the “Education in the communities” project – a special further training program for community employees – and the BMS preparatory courses were particularly popular. And the further training offer in cooperation with the Liechtenstein Olympic Committee (LOC) could also be successfully continued. As part of the “Basic Skills” project, three courses on the subject of “reading and writing” could also have been carried out.
“The ambitious annual goals in the area of courses and lectures as well as in the utilization of the seminar center could not be achieved in this extraordinary time”, as the EBA also states in its communication. The paradox of the situation was that, despite the strong decline in all business areas, administrative expenses tended to increase. Because a large number of cancellations, credits or refunds, postponements or conversions to online offers would have had to be dealt with. The constantly changing framework conditions for holding events due to the government’s necessary protection concepts have made things more difficult.
End of construction work in sight
The municipality of Schaan, as the owner of the area, is generously committed to the refurbishment for the interests of adult education. The conversion work in the “Tend” building could have been completed on schedule last summer: “The new bistro was therefore available for seminar participants for the winter semester.” In the current construction phase III, the conversion of the main house is taking place, which is associated with the most drastic spatial effects. To bridge the bottlenecks, a “study lab” based on construction containers was set up in the former horse paddock. According to the announcement, after completion of this last construction phase, more seminar rooms will be available from November, an attractive foyer, more space for archives and storage areas as well as renewed sanitary facilities, whereby the aspect of disabled access has been taken into account everywhere.
According to the annual report, the financial situation is solid even after the two Corona years. The 2021 income statement closes with a turnover of 1.95 million francs with a loss of over 11,000 francs. The fact that the deficit is so small is primarily due to the extraordinary Corona aid package from the government and state parliament as well as the accommodation of the municipality of Schaan and the Liechtenstein Adult Education Foundation. Likewise, the initiated own great savings efforts as well as additionally raised donations would have taken place.
