World Water Day marked today in Portugal with several actions – Coimbra News
The launch of an international campaign to sensitize 59 million young people to the importance of water, or the beginning of the use of reused water for irrigation are actions that mark the World Water Day today.
Proclaimed by the United Nations and celebrated since 1993, World Water Day is celebrated today in Portugal with various actions across the country, such as ‘H2OFF’, which for the second year challenge people not to open at 22:00 and at 23:00.
The initiative, by the Portuguese Association of Water Distribution and Drainage, aims to encourage behavioral awareness of the correct and efficient use of water, encouraging its protection and preservation.
In Lisbon, the pan-European campaign ‘#WaterOfTheFuture’ is launched, bringing together Portugal and seven other European Union countries and Cape Verde for European society to raise awareness among young people to play an active role and mobilize politicians and decision-makers in the fight against water youth. The campaign is launched simultaneously in the nine countries.
Also in Lisbon today, the ceremony “Lisbon Parks and Gardens: the same green, the water is different” takes place, in which the Minister of the Environment and Climate Action, João Pedro Matos Fernandes, will participate, and which marks the beginning of the irrigation project for city parks and gardens with reused water.
The project was developed by the Lisbon City Council and the company Águas do Tejo Atlântico and starts in the north of Parque das Nações.
World Water Day is also celebrated in various parts of the country with conferences, lectures and seminars, signing of protocols or exhibitions.
The 9th World Water Forum takes place this week in Dakar, under which Portugal participates with the theme Development in which there is no development and in Senegal, with an observation pavilion.
