Visions du Réel of Switzerland unveils juries for 2022 | Messages
The Swiss documentary film festival Visions du Réel has announced the juries that will oversee the competition strands of its 2022 edition, which will take place from April 7th to 17th.
The jury of the International Feature Film Competition consists of Bosnian Jovan Marjanović, who was recently appointed as the new director of the Sarajevo Film Festival; The Mexican-Ethiopian filmmaker Jessica Beshir, who won the VdR Grand Prix with her feature film debut last year, Faya Dayi; and Beatrice Fiorentino, General Delegate of the Venice Film Festival Critics’ Week.
They judge a selection of 16 films, all but one of which are world premieres, with a Grand Prize of CHF 20,000 (USD 21,400) and a Special Jury Prize worth CHF 10,000 (USD 10,700).
The Burning Lights competition will be judged by Chiara Maranon, Director of Content at Mubi; Swiss director Cyril Schäublin, who won the award for best director restlessness in the Berlinale competition “Encounters” last month; and Argentine producer Gema Juraz Allen, whose credits include the Toronto 2019 track Lina from Lima.
The jury of the VdR National Competition includes Czech film critic and Karlovy Vary programmer Martin Horyna; Katy Lena Ndiaye, the Franco-Senegalese director of Time is on our side; and Olivier Zobrist, the Swiss producer of Milo Rau The New Gospel.
The new Prix Istituto Svizzero is awarded to a Swiss director whose film is part of the VdR’s official selection and consists of a one-month stay at the Istituto Svizzero in Rome.
As previously announced, the VDR industry jury will include Berlinale director Carlo Chatrian, Dutch producer Ilse Hughan and Israeli producer-director Avi Mograbi.
The festival in Nyon will open on April 7th with Sara Dosa fire of love. The US-Canadian documentary, a portrait of volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft, premiered at Sundance in January.
