Replacement for Sabitzer? Bayern are dealing with RB Salzburg’s Mohamed Camara
It’s an open secret that FC Bayern want to strengthen their central midfield again this summer. So far, Ryan Gravenberch was considered the player of choice for Munich. Negotiations with Ajax have meanwhile picked up speed. However, FCB is dealing with current reports with another candidate.
FC Bayern is working on the squad for the new season. The “Zentrales Mittelfeld” planned construction site is right at the top of the list of priorities. The approaching departures of Corentin Tolisso and probably also of Marc Roca tear a hole in the former showpiece of FC Bayern. Under Pep Guardiola there was always an oversupply of top players in central midfield. However, times have changed and so has FCB’s transfer strategy. The motto is saving. The Bavarians are not kicking off a “complete star” like Xabi Alonso or Thiago once did, but are on the lookout for talented people who can develop.
Camara is the focus of FCB
Alongside Ajax Amsterdam’s Ryan Gravenberch, RB Salzburg’s Mohamed Camara also fits into this category. As reported by the Spanish “AS”., the 22-year-old midfielder is on Munich’s “shortlist”. Camara is often included with Chelsea pro N’Golo Kante due to his style of play.
Bayern were recently able to get a good personal impression of Camara when they played Salzburg in the last 16 of the Champions League. Especially in the 1-1 draw in the first leg, the midfielder, who is strong in running and tackling, put in a strong performance. In the 7-1 defeat in the second leg, on the other hand, Camara, like everyone else in Salzburg, remained rather pale.
In addition to FCB, Atletico Madrid also seem to have their eye on the Malian international. This contract is tied to Salzburg until 2025 and has a market value of EUR 23 million.
Will Camara replace Marcel Sabitzer?
In view of Ryan Gravenberch’s newly announced transfer negotiations, Camara is not currently a high priority for Bayern. Should the record champions be successful with the Dutchman, it is very unlikely that €20-25m will be spent on another midfielder.
Only if Marcel Sabitzer leaves early could Camara become an unexpected option for Bayern. As “SPORT1” reports, the Austrian could leave the German record champions after just one season. Accordingly, those responsible on the Isar would start pondering “if there was a good offer”.
