Customs have seized 21 pleasure boats, possibly owned by oligarchs
FINNISH CUSTOMS has banned a total of 21 recreational craft on suspicion of being owned by oligarchs or other persons subject to the EU sanctions regime, Sami RakshitHead of the Customs Control Department, confirmed To YLE on Monday.
Helsingin sanomat newspaper wrote arrests on the basis of information previously received on Monday.
Rakshit told YLE that customs authorities are currently investigating whether the yachts belong to individuals or companies that are subject to sanctions by the 27-nation bloc over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. If officials receive confirmation of ownership, the Yacht will be confiscated by the Authority.
According to Customs, one yacht in Finland has already been seized by the enforcement authority.
Helsingin Sanomat said that Customs had informed the yachts’ winter warehouses that the yachts would not be moved anywhere between Thursday and Friday.
