Almost 3.5 million people have already fled Ukraine: How many of them came to Poland, Russia or Slovakia

about 90 percent of these refugees are women and children, whereas men aged 18-60 are obliged to serve in the army and not leave the country.
It is now estimated that more than ten million people, more than a quarter of the population living in government-run regions, have fled their homes as a result of the war in Ukraine. According to UNHCR, this number includes Ukrainians who have taken refuge abroad, as well as internally displaced persons on Ukrainian territory.
“Over the last four weeks, the world has watched in disbelief as countless lives have been lost, while millions more have turned their lives.” said UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi. At the same time, however, according to him, the world also witnessed acts of welcome and compassion when neighboring countries opened their hearts and homes to the Ukrainians.
The UNICEF Children’s Fund states that among refugees from Ukraine who have taken refuge abroad, more than 1.5 children’s friendships.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), some 186,000 third-country nationals have fled to neighboring countries since the beginning of the Russian invasion.
