Zlatko Junuzovic after Salzburg-Aus: “I can only say positive things” – football
Zlatko Junuzovic handles his exit from FC Red Bull Salzburg in a sovereign way.
Despite strong performances in recent years, the 34-year-old veteran has not received a contract in the city of Mozart that goes beyond the summer, as sports director Christoph Freund wants to make the “bulls” even younger (read here>>>).
The ex-ÖFB player would have liked to have added another season in Salzburg, but can understand the motives of the Mozartstadt sports director.
“Despite everything, the talks were good. I’ve emphasized again and again how much I feel comfortable, and how everything fit together with the family. Ultimately, the decision was made as it is. I would have liked to have stayed longer, but the club has shown in the past which path he has taken and how successful he is at it,” Junuzovic has no grudge against his current employer on “Sky”.
He would make the switch to Austria’s serial champions again at any time, which he announced free of charge from SV Werder Bremen in the summer of 2018: “I can only say positive things, this step did me good. Now we’re going to see if we can bring the last titles home.”
Comeback after more than five months: “Nice feeling”
Junuzovic’s exit from the city of Mozart is mainly due to Salzburg’s radical youth mania, there was no rift with coach Matthias Jaissle, which was recently speculated about. This was shown by the “Bulls” game on Sunday at the WAC (game report>>>). Jaissle brought Junuzovic back into the squad for the first time since his protracted heel infection and helped him make his comeback in the closing stages – despite the summer’s confirmed exit.
“Of course it was a very nice feeling. The comeback feels great for me. Being on the field with the lads and not just in training, to be officially back now,” said Junuzovic, happy about his first minutes of play since the end of August.
The 34-year-old was already back in the squad in the two Champions League duels with FC Bayern, but he was denied a substitution at the time.
The midfielder also takes a sporting view of missing this highlight: “The boys were in a great mood, they worked hard to get to the round of 16 in the group stage, I was just a spectator. Despite everything, I was happy to be with the team in the dressing room. I I had to work hard in rehab, so it’s all the nicer to be back on the field now.”
What’s next for Junuzovic?
In the Lavanttal Arena, the Salzburg supporters who had traveled with them chanted after Junuzovic’s substitution, and the crowd favorite received a lot of encouragement from the Mozartstadt supporters after the announcement of his departure: “I want to show myself to the fans again for all the great news. It makes me very proud, it’s a great feeling.”
How Junuzovic’s career will continue beyond the summer is still open. The LASK should show interest, the WAC is also concerned with the ex-ÖFB player who grew up in Carinthia.
“There have been one or two requests without going into detail. I’ll make a decision together with the family. We’ll see what the next few weeks bring. I’ll concentrate on my body and my fitness level,” reveals Junuzovic.
