Portugal leaves Belgrade on a positive note
Portugal leaves with a very positive balance of the World Athletics indoor track, in Belgrade, assured, this Sunday, by the Lusa agency, the Team Leader of the Portuguese delegation, Fernando Tavares.
“A set of results that Fernando swung very positively, shows very well, with general show”.
In Belgrade, Portugal won a gold medal in the women’s shot put, by Auriol Dongmo, and a silver medal in the men’s triple jump, by Pedro Pablo Pichardo, highlighting even more a finalist place (eight first), by Patrícia Mamona, that was sixth no triple jump.
“For now we are in a position that we were not, in fourth place [no quadro de medalhas], we’ll see when it’s done. In terms of the number of medals we are not fourth, but, as the gold medals are more important, we are at this stage ahead of the European powers, but that is not the most finished thing, the most important thing is to have an important notion that our athletics is well, our athletes, our coaches and our athletes can work very well and our results that are found here are an expression of that”, he said.
Fernando Tavares recalled that the World Cups are very competitive, with excellent marks, such as the “stratospheric” world record in the triple jump of the Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas, with 15.74 meters.
“We had a great level and our models for the World Cup we have a perspective of Munich”, he referred.
Isaac Nader, 10th in the 1,500 meters, regrets that there is no permanent indoor track in Portugal, with the official saying that the construction of one is not planned and that this is due “to the usual funding deficit that sport has and athletics, like many other disciplines, has in particular”.
“We really need a higher investment in terms of quality infrastructure. months a year, therefore, there is no need to adapt to this type of structure. It would be very good to have a complete indoor track, we have the Jamor CAR [não tem pista de 200 metros]but it’s for training, not competition”, he said.
