Poplars of via Pisa, the trees of discord saved at least for now: “Stop the bulldozers”
TREVISO – For now, the trees of discord in via Pisa remain in place. Councilor Alessandro Manera blocked the felling just a few hours before the chainsaws were switched on. The area where the more than 20 poplars to be cut stand out is private. The condominium assembly of the owners of the complex which has 160 apartments, one third of the diocesan institute for the support of the clergy, decided with the unanimity of those present to make a clean sweep to resolve once and for all the problem of the roots that have raised the asphalt of the internal road. But yesterday Manera, called directly by some tenants, got in touch with the surveyor Federico Dallan, condominium administrator of the Nuova Equipe. “I asked to block everything to see if alternative solutions are possible. And as a Municipality we will give our support – explains the commissioner – thanks to the administrator for his availability. If necessary, I will also discuss with the condominium assembly. The important thing now is to check from a technical point of view if there are other ways ».
THE COMMITTEE
Yesterday morning a dozen residents took to the street right in front of the trees condemned to be cut. And here the committee of talking poplars was formed. There were also Regina Toncini, coordinator of the Trees screaming committee, and Gigi Calesso, reference of the Civic Coalition for Treviso. The felling of the trees was already scheduled for tomorrow. So much so that some tenants said they were ready to barricade cars or even chained themselves to poplars in order to save their lives. That won’t be necessary for now. The game, however, remains open. And the residents also turn to Bishop Michele Tomasi. «Stop the operation – is the appeal that comes from the group – also thinking about the encyclical Laudato Sì. It is dedicated to the environment and does not talk about cutting down trees ». The tenants didn’t even get the timing down. Only last Thursday was it said, through a letter, that since Monday the felled trees have been felled – apparently reveal these poplars are not among those protected by the various regulations. Marli cut clean is a mess. They have been here for 35 years, they have grown with us, up to now about twenty meters high. A lot of birds stop on their branches, starting with a couple of woodpeckers ». The latter were also at work yesterday morning. For those who live in the buildings of via Pisa, then, the trees constitute a green barrier, the last, compared to the area behind the condominiums where a new road and new homes are being built.
ALTERNATIVE OF THE PROPOSAL
Among the residents who actually live to save the poplars there is also Loredana Storer, the most inhabitant of the group, who has lived the most in Via Pisa for 34 years. “I lived with these trees – she spreads her arms – we talk about planting trees everywhere . And now they take them off? I feel like crying. »« In the summer I wake up with birdsong – she adds – she towards dusk the sparrows that call me. I come out and fish. She answered me with their fish. And for me it is life ». There remains the problem of the roots that raise the asphalt. This was the triggering cause. “But there is no lack of alternatives – underlines Toncini – it would be possible to put a net and raise the road a few centimeters. The margins are there. This would save a tree-lined avenue that deserves to be preserved ». She made the proposal to send a Pec to the forestry group of the carabinieri. As well as at the diocesan institute for the support of the clergy. “If someone has a problem with a finger, he does not undergo the amputation of the entire hand”, highlight other tenants. Translated: you don’t need to make a clean sweep to solve the root knot. Also because the trees appear to be in greeting. «It would have been a contradiction to cut them on the first day of spring – the committee insist – this day in schools is dedicated to work on the rebirth of life. Here, on the other hand, we risk cutting down a series of trees ». Someone has also raised the doubt that the branches can interfere with the signal of the mobile phone antennas installed on the roof of the buildings. On this, however, there are no confirmations.
