Lungau: Leihomas and Leihopa wanted
social
In Lungau, a system for rental grandmas and rental grandpas is to be set up. There is already one in all other Salzburg districts. The Catholic Family Association is behind the initiative for loan grandparents who are supposed to look after children.
So that families with children can maintain a certain standard of living, and meanwhile also in rural areas, both parents usually work – mothers often part-time. But then they need someone who will look after their children at least part of the time. On the other hand, older people in Lungau often live alone, have a lot of time and want to spend it in a meaningful way, says social worker Yvonne Bliem, who is responsible for the offer of surrogate grandparents.
“I then look at the children and their parents. I need a police certificate from the surrogate grandparents. I then see which surrogate grandmother or surrogate father I feel suits which species. Then the surrogate grandparents should meet the children and their parents. If the chemistry is right, then it’s already gone very well. And if not, then you just have to look for another surrogate grandmother or another surrogate father for the child in question,” explains Bliem.
“Six to nine euros per hour of care”
Yvonne Bliem is currently working flat out to set up the system for the Lungau. “The surrogate grandmother or surrogate father receives an average of six to nine euros per hour for looking after the child. However, this must then be agreed directly between the mother and the surrogate grandparents. If the surrogate grandparents want to do it on a voluntary basis, that’s fine too, of course. And if something IS paid for, then the loan grandmother or the loan grandfather will certainly be happy too,” says Bliem.
