Here’s What The Malta Labor Party Gathered During Wednesday
We are officially at the end of the four weeks for the election campaign of this election – and things are getting spicier by the minute.
Prime Minister Robert Abela and Leader of the Opposition Bernard Grech went head-to-head in another election debate – the second for the campaign – held by the Chamber of Commerce.
The debate
In front of the Chamber of Commerce, the debate between the Prime Minister of Malta and the Leader of the PN contrasted sharply with what took place at the University of Malta, which was dominated by a tribal audience and political soundbites. .
During the debate, Abela and Grech presented very different visions regarding the economic future of Malta. The Prime Minister focused on stability, presenting the government as a safe pair of hands to guide the country through the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian government.
Moderator Rachel Attard promptly raised doubts about the financial viability of each party’s manifesto, particularly amid concerns about rising cost of living and the millions being spent to mitigate the negative economic impact. Neither party has proposed a tax increase, which has led to serious questions about how to plan to pay for their plans.
Towards the end of the debate, Attard posed a challenging question to both leaders. Using current development issues in Gozo as evidence, Attard questioned whether the Planning Authority had become a permitting authority.
Abela first referred to a recent controversial decision to approve Joseph Portelli’s mega-development in Sannat, and said he had much more to follow until it was officially approved.
Grech immediately referred to a meal Abela had with Portelli before the permit was approved – a scandalous finding that emerged from this week’s events.
Lovin Malta was informed that the lunch was organized by Portelli on Saturday 5th March after an activity in Sannat. The Shift News has since confirmed the dinner, which included several major developers from the sister island.
And the arrival of the checks …
Citizens across Malta have begun to receive the stimulus checks promised by Prime Minister Robert Abela in recent weeks, and it is fair to say that the exaggerated reactions were not expected.
Upon receiving it, a man was so happy with his checks that he filmed himself in a TikTok video celebrating the Labor Party to the tune ‘Bella Ciao’.
“And thank you Prime, thank you Prime, thank you Prime Prime Prime!”
And on the other side of the spectrum, a man filmed himself burning stimulus checks, saying “How are you trying to buy my vote?” asked Prime Minister Robert Abela. “It simply came to our notice then. Can you see? ”How hot the checks are with the blow torch.
Abela and Grech will now meet again next week for their final debate on TVM ahead of the election, on March 23.
