Following the university assembly convened by “Sinistra Per …”, independent student movement of Pisa, the Carmignani university campus was occupied “for an indefinite period”. The reasons for this political action are many and are summarized in an open letter to the rector Paolo Maria Mancarella, to the mayor Michele Conti, to the governor Eugenio Giani, to the minister Maria Cristina Messa.
“For too long our requests have not been listened to” while “The recent decision of the Tuscany Region to no longer disburse contributions for the right to educationto recover resources through Pnrr funds, it is unacceptable and dangerous. The Region chooses to play a game of chance, a leap into the void. At best, it is said in the report produced by the regional right to education company, the services provided will remain the same as now, at worst to see yet another cut on the right to education “. “Instead of using funds from the NRP to enhance the right to education, which has been defined for more than 10 yearsinvesting them in extraordinary interventions such as the maintenance and renovation of residences, which are falling apart, or the expansion of the canteen service, insufficient even in periods of lesser turnout, it is decided to face the pandemic and restart with a game on the skin of the most fragile component and most affected by the student, the scholarship holder. If the Region were to aim for the restructuring2 results to be disastrous: within the reduction of scholarships, of 650 places, in addition to the reduction of services and their provision. This means a strong outsourcing of services ». «The Italian university is more and more expensive – they also write -. Taxes increased by 60% between 2005 and 2015 and the number of enrollments decreased by about 4.8% if we compare the people enrolled in 2019 with those in 2008 ”.
