Keep Norway Clean is in the gang
In the whole country, 53,765 kilos of rubbish have been collected so far, while in Nordland only 769 kilos have been registered in total. But now it should be said that there is still some snow and there are several places left that can make garbage collection difficult in the north.
So far, nothing has been registered in the collection for Vefsn in the campaign. Spring entices us into nature, and many will also make a concrete contribution to the environment by clearing rubbish. At the same time, this is a vulnerable time for bird life. An important goal of voluntary clean-up is to protect wildlife, but if we disturb nesting birds when we clean, we can do more harm than good. Keep Norway Clean therefore encourages all volunteer cleaners to clean before the birds arrive or after the breeding season is over. – If we disturb nesting birds, we can in the worst case risk that the parents leave the nest and do not return to the eggs or chickens, says project manager for clean-up, Heidi Gromstad.
Clean up on Spring Cleanup Day before the birds arrive
Before the national traffic ban comes into force and the breeding season begins in full, Keep Norway Clean and the rest of the cleaning community in Norway are invited to Spring Cleanup Day. This year, the work day will take place on Saturday 19 March. – Even though Spring Clearance Day takes place before the traffic ban takes effect and the breeding season is in full swing, it is important to be careful, because the birds nest earlier and earlier in this country, and they also nest outside the protected areas, Gromstad explains. Everyone who travels in the immediate area of areas with traffic bans must keep a distance of at least 50 meters to these areas. – Both hikers, climbers, paddlers, kiters, divers and volunteer clearers must respect the traffic ban, says Gromstad. It is not allowed to drive a boat or jet ski through areas with no traffic. It is not allowed to go ashore, dogs can not be released into these areas, nor is it allowed to fly drones into the areas.
In several places in the country, the traffic ban starts as early as March 15, and in these areas it is not allowed to clean on Spring Cleanup Day.
