Futsal: Sporting and Benfica in the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup
Sporting, Benfica, Quinta dos Lombos, Candoso, Eléctrico, Leões de Porto Salvo and Marítimo secured, this Saturday, qualification for the final to eight of the men’s futsal Portuguese Cup.
In Braga, in the pavilion of the University of Minho, Rudi gave advantage to the team led by Joel Rocha (4m), but Sporting turned in the first half by Pauleta (14m) and Cardinal (20m). In the second, Alex Merlim made it 1-3 (31m) and Cardinal, in the last minute, with Braga in five to four, completed the hat trick final paragraph 1-5.
In Viseu, Benfica also secured qualification, with a victory by the smallest margin: 3-2 against Viseu 2001. Marítimo, from the 2nd Division, eliminated SC Cabeçudense/FC Famalicão, from the 3rd, with the islanders being the only representative of the League in the next phase. But there will be another one, from the last game of the round of 16, Amigos de Cerva-Caxinas, a duel between a team from the 3rd Division and another from the 2nd Division, on March 30th.
With these results, and since Porto has already decided to hold on to the final at eight, Marítimo-Sporting – three quarter-final duels, Sportítimo-Eléctrico and Quinta dos Lombos-Leões de Candoso are already defined. Benfica face the winner of the Amigos de Cerva-Caxinas. The “quarters” of the Cup are on the 19th of May, with the semi-finals on the 21st and the final on the 22nd.
