Stanisław Linowski: Krakow is a strange mirage of mystery and darkness
Paweł Gzył
Today, the series “Krakowskie potwory” has its premiere on Netflix. To rumble the blood in the veins about whether our new application may unexpectedly appear suddenly from Slavic mythology. main roles play in the series Stanisław Linowski – a young actor of the Stary Theater in Krakow. He plays the role of Lucky, who, with a group of members and classmates under an earlier mysterious professor, is replacing the city against the plague of bloodthirsty. We talked to the actor about his role.
– Do you like movies about supernatural events and characters?
– I had such a moment in my life that I loved this kind of movies. When I was in my first junior high school, we used to go to the newest gymnastics classes on Fridays or Saturdays. At the time, however, I overdosed. In the end, the one that will keep you from sleeping for two weeks – “Abnormal activity” – will be mastered. I just watched one movie too many. That’s why today I honestly avoid horror movies today.
– What, then, is that you wanted to play in “Krakow Monsters”?
– The very stage of the casting was born pink. The caps we got to play were quite enigmatic and not exactly the songs I am supposed to be part of. Everything, however, was created for a kind of absurdity that I liked. So I knew it was a bold and unusual project. Then, when I got the whole script, I was delighted. I liked the clash of two worlds: the quite freely interpreted mythology of the word with Krakow of the 21st century. It seemed like a crazy idea. And I am very happy that I was able to participate in it.
– How was the audition for the role of Lucky?
– Everything happened in the middle of a pandemic. So these were internet castings. It has its pros and cons, it was an interesting experience. That’s why I’m glad that I was able to go through something like this. But there was a moment when I was the family home and when I had internet in the basement. So I was in a dark room to fit perfectly into the atmosphere of this project. Your task is to record a scene in which you are to talk about your meeting with a mythical creature. So let your imagination run wild. This was the first step. Then we met the directors of the series Kasia Adamik and Olga Chajdas, as well as the casting director Paulina Krajnik, and we tried different scenes.
– Lucky’s character is quite ambiguous. Did you like this feature of your hero?
– Of course. I really liked the fact that at the casting stage the heroes are presented in 2-3 sentences that describe them when they just refer to all these episodes, more accurately and more accurately. Lucky gives the impression of a strong boy, a bit menacing and on foot, with firm feet on the ground, who knows what the surface wants. Suddenly the Earth is where it is, that it is a very pony person who is and is her place to be until the end. And the most interesting thing is the collision of this first impression with the truth about this character. I really liked that this boy is sensitive and delicate after all.
– Many actors, when working on a character, we made their biographies – what happened in her life before what the film is about. Are you trying to do that too?
– Yes. I did with the directors. We told ourselves the so-called a background that is not in the series. They were on your level. I say it was crucial to my role. It is also important that when we were making “Krakowskie Monsters”, I lived near Wawel. It was very useful for me. Walking around Krakow in Lucky’s shoes.
– You mentioned the female directors. One had a big influence on how you played your character?
– For sure. From the beginning, they were in meetings during which there was no stress. I didn’t even feel it at the casting. That there would be meetings where we told each other amazing stories that they would like us to have. And with this impression I did not say goodbye until the last day of the photo session. I enjoyed working with them very well. Read a lot about the new job, you talk about our new job.
– Which scene was the most difficult for you?
– All the stunt scenes. For the first time, I encountered playing with something that you have to choose. It was difficult for that – but even more interesting. I had a lot of fun playing such elements. But it must be tiresome to admit that. It wasn’t until I watched the first three episodes that I had finished, before the movie appeared, confronted with the image I had to play with at the beginning.
– You are, first and foremost, a theater actor. This kind of experience is available at the stage of this series?
– It seems to me that the theater can harmonize with the film and it is a co-player. As for expression, they are actually two completely different worlds. However, they can inspire each other. A metaphor that is very much in the field of natural science in theater, where it can belong in the theater, where there is no place for film, especially in the first genre, where the actor has to afford a place or object. Everything else happens in post-production.
-A shareholder partner in the series is Andrzej Chyra in the role of professor Zawadzki. How did you get on with such an experienced actor?
– Very good. It was the second second meeting with Andrzej Chyra. The relationship between Lucky and professor Zawadzki was a great help for me this time. Because it is a bit like what father and son have in common. He happily uses his mentor, follows him all the time, come in and I will discuss as your guru. It was in the case of me and Andrzej. Watching him work on the set was a big lesson for me. Therefore, I had to think too much about this account. She just was.
– The rest of the cast are all youth. How did this translate into the place on the set?
– Life I met with Basia – and the casting for Zawadzki’s group was still going on and, importantly, someone new will come to us and increase the group. We got close to each other quickly and we have contact to this day. There is nothing better than this in the context of work. Because it goes to what the viewers are watching on the screen. I really liked that we don’t play such a stereotypical group of friends. There is a very ambiguous relationship between us. It turned out to me that it turned out nicely. It is not really known whether they like each other or not. They definitely have common problems that keep them close together. And when the camera was off, we acted as if we had known each other forever. Therefore, despite the darkness that prevails in the series, the transition set is very fun.
– The series shows an unusual Krakow. Was it difficult to find the right locations?
– Not. I identify with the vision of Krakow, which was used a lot in the series. Anyway, Krakow is one of the main heroes of this production. Sometimes he is even a personification: to the city of breathing and inte, to the city, he plays beautifully in this series. I spent six years in Krakow and I cannot imagine the action of this series happening anywhere in history. This darkness is in Krakow. When I read the script for the first time, as part of my preparations, I learned Wyspiański’s drawing – Planty in Autumn. For a beautiful, but very dark picture. And this is what he started with – to use help in cooperation with this city.
– What are the reasons for the ten dark climates of Krakow?
– Surely that I have many stories with. This makes Krakow its darkness. Except it’s not something pejorative. Hence, there is some mystery, something that the problem cannot be solved because it is not black and white. All these streets and nails a strange mirage of mystery and darkness. But one that you are curious about, not one that I would have.
– Where? the companies of these dark scenes
– In Kazimierz. Interestingly, I lived 100 meters from the set of the series. So I was right in the center of this world.
– You’ve played in Polish series before – “Belfer 2” or “Under the surface”. However, “Krakowskie Monsters” is a production of the world tycoon – Netflix. Felt up to on set?
– “Krakowskie monsters” are distinguished by their subject matter. To a completely different project from the others. They were serial moral, and this – serial supernatural. Therefore, it cannot be done. Through the world that we tell in “Krakow Monsters”, and this series was a challenge for me about necessity.
– You weren’t disassembled
– Not. All the time I was curious about this confrontation of my image of all these monsters with how it was possible to once again on one screen. When the first episode was episode, my jaw dropped. I do look real.
– You are an actor in the Stary Teatr ensemble. Won’t your older colleagues look askance at you for starring in the show?
– There is no such attitude anymore. This is the past. The series in these days have a completely different meaning and are completely different levels. Today we even watched TV series than movies As for I am lucky with child prodigies and activities departments. When I was talking with them about “Krakow monsters”, everyone kept their fingers crossed for me and wished me good luck. I have in the theater to do with professionals who are really the best in their profession and the only thing they earn is to calculate from them, only for support. I’m so lucky.
– “Krakow monsters” will be seen by viewers not only in Poland, but all over the world. Do you expect to translate into new job offers for you?
– It would be wonderful if you did. For me, the most important thing is the reception of this series. Because it is a joint work of many people. Hope you will be appreciated. We put it because I know a lot in it. What will happen more – I will receive as a bonus.
– Would you like to work at work in series and movies in the future?
– Of course. For a wonderfully complementary blend. Theater is very cinematic and. The mixing of these two worlds is intriguing. If I can keep it on, you will. I am glad that I can act in these two worlds, because they are completely different.
