American military aircraft has crashed in Nordland – NRK Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country
– The plane, with a crew of four, was on a training assignment from Bodø. They were scheduled to land again just before 6 p.m.
At 21.17, finds were made on the ground in Gråtådalen in Beiarn, the Main Rescue Center North Norway informs NRK.
It was VG who reported the plane crash first.
– You have not been to the site itself, so you do not know anything about the four who were on board. But we know that it is a crash site, says spokesman Jan Eskil Severinsen to NRK.
Found in Fjelldal
The site is not along the road and the weather conditions in the area are challenging, and HRS states that it will take time to get into the area.
Gråtådalen is located south of Bodø, as a side valley to Beiardalen. The area is known for many caves.
Ivar Moen, lieutenant colonel and spokesman for the exercise Cold Response confirms that the American plane is missing.
– There is an ongoing rescue operation, he says. The plane has operated from Bodø in recent weeks, but did not return at the planned time.
He does not want to speculate whether this is an accident or something else. We are working closely with the US military now, says Moen. He says that this is an incident that affects everyone who is affected.
Ole Christian Emaus, Head of Communications at FOH, cannot confirm the nationality of anyone on board the aircraft, only that it is an American aircraft.
Has sent out crew
– A discovery has been made from the air, Lieutenant Colonel Stine Barclay Gaasland confirms to NRK.
She says the soldiers have been informed of what has happened.
– It affects us all. It is allies and good colleagues of ours that we work with continuously.
Ørjan Kristensen of the Red Cross Auxiliary Corps in Beiarn, tells NRK that they have called out available crew.
