Agreement between Siena and Pisa for lung transplants

The envisaged agreement provides for the organ evaluation of potential donors by the Pisana accord, in anticipation of the professor with the possible intervention of the Sienese A Raccordoou who, with Luzzi, will carry out the coordination function of the integrated transplantation path. The director of the Thoracic Surgery Unit of the Pisa hospital-university company, Professor Marco Lucchi, will be the coordinator of the company activities subject to collaboration involving the involvement of both the Pneumology Unit directed by Professor Laura Carrozzi and the Section Department of Minimally Invasive and Robotic Thoracic Surgery directed by Professor Franca Melfi, all essential players in the lung care pathway, with the planning of training for trainees in agreement with the University of Pisa and Siena.

The agreement therefore specifically provides, after the evaluation of the candidates for the graft and the possible inclusion of these in the list by the Pisan university hospital, the scheduled presence of a thoracic surgeon of the Pisan Aou in the transplant team of A Senese during transplant operations and the possibility for doctors in specialist training enrolled in the Specialization School of Thoracic Surgery of the University of Pisa to attend a period of up to 18 months in Thoracic Surgery, directed by Professor Piero Paladini, and in the lung transplant unit of the Sienese university hospital.
