From Iceland – A book about the life of immigrants in Iceland published
Iceland polished, or Sand Icelanda book by a Polish writer living in Reykjavík, Ewa Marcinek, has has been published by Forlaginn, the main publishing house in Iceland. Sand Iceland is a collection of short stories, poems and stories about the lives of immigrants in Iceland. The book has also been adapted for theater and staged in both Iceland and Poland.
“The inspiration for the book was my personal experience, the stories I have heard and the people I have met. ” explains Ewa. “Iceland polarized belongs to the creative discipline. This is an autobiographical story where I experiment with poetry and change some details. This is my favorite writing style.”
The title of the book comes from a pun, Polish and to sandwhich refers to physical work, the most common form of first employment among immigrants moving to Iceland.

Ewa Marcinek is from Poland. She studied cultural studies and creative writing in Wrocław, but her writing career took over in 2013 after she moved to Iceland. She works as a conductor and writer at Leikfélag Reykjavík Ensemble.
The English version of the book, with fragments in Polish and Icelandic, will be published this summer by Ós Press.
