European map shows Portugal and several European countries still painted red with COVID-19 infections
In recent weeks Europe has been closer to the state of being painted red on ECDC maps, a color code that represents the existence of more than 500 positive COVID-19 cases per 100 million inhabitants.
Data from the European Disease Center (ECDC) were updated this Thursday in Europe Control of dark days that in the last 14 continue in Portugal by the majority of western painted by the progression of western infections19 despite the reduction of containment measures that is underway all over the European Union.
The map shows some improvements in certain areas of Spain, as well as in the countries of Eastern Europe, being painted in orange, the second highest level, which corresponds to 100 to 300 positive cases of COVID-19 per 100 thousand inhabitants. But Portugal, France, Italy and other Nordic countries are still painted in red. Portugal thus adds the tenth consecutive 2022 in the red.
In the week, the ECDC made reference to the epidemiological situation in the European Union was still considered lower, but there was a reduction at the general level, especially in positive notifications in some countries. On the other hand, it is noteworthy that there were changes in strategy with regard to the tests performed on the population in a few, including its reduction, with a focus on more severe cases.
It should be remembered that the epidemiological bulletin is no longer daily, but weekly, published on Fridays. The number of positive cases of infection rose to 11,963 from the previous week, in the update last Friday, March 11th. There was also a reduction of 36 deaths between two weeks.
With the reduction of COVID-19 cases, the European Commission intends to associate itself with the travel of citizens between member countries. The Commission took stock of the COVID-19 digital certificate, considering that it was a very useful tool in July 2021. In all, more than 1.7 million digital certificates were generated, which allowed the circulation of citizen certificates during the period of pandemics.
With the development of the pandemic situation, the Commission says it is working towards a return without movement to free movement. “We urge states that have risen as last travel members, particularly where states have already risen to domestic.”
