Easyjet celebrates ten years with another plane in Lisbon. Plan is Pandemic Rescue in 2022
EasyJet took advantage of the inauguration of the first base in Portugal from the age of ten to announce another plane in Lisbon, from the tenth anniversary of IATA. I got it thanks to being sent to the smallest companies, with a pandemic to operate at Lisbon airport, explained by the general director of EasyJet, José Lopes, to Expresso.
The company managed to fly twice as much in 2021 as it did in 2020 and expects 95% more this summer than in the past, he explains. For now, EasyJet is “satisfied with the slots it has for the summer”, assures the manager.
The EasyJet of the candidates will once again be obliged to release in the winter of this year, from the arrival of the TAP plan on 18th Brussels. Applications run until March 24th and the result will be announced on June 13th.
Given the risk of EasyJet’s jet fuel, José Lopes does not foresee, for the time being, that there will be an increase in closing prices any time soon, despite the rise in animal prices.
With the investment announced this Thursday, the company now has
16 planes, six in LI and six in Porto and more in Faro, and employ 55 people, of which 18 go in another 180 in the capital. A further 33 workers will be hired.
Portugal is one of EasyJet’s main markets, and the company is “very satisfied” with the performance of the market, where it debuted in 1998, during Expo 98. Since then, the trajectory has been one of growth. And so it must go on. “Our will is to reach 2023 with 100 more people”, confesses José Lopes, in statements to Expresso.
The four new routes announced from Portuguese airports are: Lisbon – Porto Santo; Porto – Prague; Faro – Birmingham and Faro – London Southend. The company’s new connections will be operating during the summer months. The connection between Lisbon and Porto Santo will be available for travel from the 2nd of June until the 25th of September, through two weekly frequencies. The remaining routes (Porto-Prague; Faro-Birmingham and Faro-London Southend) will be operated twice a week, between the beginning of May and the end of October 2022.
EasyJet highlighted that in 2008 it started operating on domestic routes. About four years later, in April 2012, the base was inaugurated in the Portuguese capital. So far, it has transported more than 27.8 million passengers, with 19 connections to European airports in around nine countries.
In Portugal, EasyJet is the third largest airline. José Lopes reaffirms himself as number one in Funchal, number two in Porto and Faro and number three in Lisbon. A is the concern of reaching two in Lisbon.
EasyJet expects to achieve 2023 pre-pandemic growth. “We are announcing fourth and expect to fly around 74% of 2019 capacity in Q2 and expecting summer quarter capacity to approach 2019 levels.” in a statement.
